Located in Bethel, CT, Blue Jay Orchards was again found through a Google search. All the reviews seemed to rave about the donuts more than the apples. It was also conveniently located not far from interstate 84. We stopped by the store just before closing time but luckily found they still had a few dozen donuts left. I was slightly concerned when I saw them packaged in plastic containers, worrying they wouldn't be as fresh or delicious as the fresh out of the fryer donuts we had at Clyde's. I cautiously purchased a box of a dozen, opened them and shared them with my family. Immediately, I could tell my initial prediction was wrong... so very wrong in fact, that I turned around and purchased another dozen. Blue Jay Orchards currently holds my number one spot for best apple cider donut. They literally melt in your mouth, and even though that's typically not something you look for in a donut, it's the only thing that would come to mind with every bite I would take. They were soft, moist, not greasy, with a nice flavor. I should probably also reveal that I ate at least eight of them over the next 2 days, and was so sad when there was only one left in the container. If you want to experience a perfect apple cider donut, stop by Blue Jay Orchards.
